Success! I was doing some shopping in the craft section at WalMart yesterday, and decided to peek at the shells in their wedding section. There were these bags of large shells, and I could see some that looked like they might be appropriate, so I decided to give it a shot. I was shocked to find close to a dozen turbo shells, and several other appropriate shells that were just the size I was looking for! Some were even a little larger which will allow for some growth. AND the whole bag was only $10!! I was not looking forward to spending $15+ on a single shell, so this really saved my pocketbook! Now just have to wait for Sheldon to make his move. We spritzed them with some saltwater, but will probably give them a good soaking (the shells) tomorrow if he hasn’t made his move by then. I read that this makes them seem like they just washed onto the shore, and thus more appealing to the hermit crabs. Makes sense to me, so I might as well give it a shot. I can’t wait to see Sheldon in a better fitting shell, and out of the weird painted one from the pet shop!
